DIRTBIKE-TRAXS staged round six of the UK's best supported Hare Scramble Championship at the popular Gisburn venue, once again attracting 400 riders to the weekend's proceedings.
With the unpredictable summer weather causinghavoc with events around the country, the organising team was subjectedto 15 hours of rain which started early Saturday morning and did notease until 10pm on Saturday night. This caused havoc with the carparking and track, but the experienced crew modified their plans.
Unfortunately, the revised car-parking was a longway from the start and DBT would like to thank the riders for theirunderstanding over this.
The Youth races for the Juniors and Senior Briders got underway at 2.30pm on Saturday with conditions wet andslippery. In Senior B, Billy Robinson and Joe Deakin swapped the leadduring the first hour with Deakin eventually claiming the win. In theJunior ranks, Luke Flack was the victor from Harrison Bell second andMichael Tatham. It was hard work for the riders.
However, conditions had changed dramatically bySunday morning. The sun was shining though and the underfoot conditionswere still very wet, and this caused the sportsmen problems early on.
The first race, with a race duration of 2.5 hours, got underway at 9am, with 220 Sportsmen, Novices and Senior A Youth riders.
The track had been substantially revised due to the conditions - the famous ‘Barnes Banks' were cut out.
As the leaders came back to time control for thefirst time, young Liam Ward came through the newly constructed Putolinerock and log section first. He maintained his lead for the first houruntil he suffered throttle trouble. Despite this problem he hung on tofinish in third place.
Rob Wright emerged to take the E1 class win fromChris Berrill. Meanwhile, in Sportsman Open, Peter Carr took top spotfrom Richard Spencer and Ryan Patrick.
By the time the race finished, the trackconditions had dramatically improved. The hot sunshine and light breezehad dried it so much that the course team were busy remarking thecourse to include the famous ‘Barnes Banks' again for the main race ofthe day.
