AFTER a lapse of 30 years, Nathan Stones has resurrected the Mintex Youth Time and Observation Trial more or less singlehandedly, and the Richmond Motor Club is revving up to run the event this weekend June 7, in Arkengarthdale.
The trial is for Youth Classes A and B only, with selected Class C riders being included. This trial covers 10.8 miles, measured by GPS satellite method, and utilizes parts of the infamous Scott Trial course. Nathan Stones, as clerk of the course, has set the ground rules. Class A will ride two laps of 20 sections, Class B have 17 sections and two laps, and the Class C entry will ride the same course as Class B.
There will be refuelling in the start area and on the course, and these fuelling points will be manned, ensuring they comply with Health and Safety regulations.
Start times will be either at 20 or 30 second intervals. Scoring will be as per the Scott Trial, so the fastest rider sets standard time and penalties over that time will be a mark a minute. Basically the Scott Trial rules applies so not attempting a section or missing one completely will incur penalties. Richmond MC will have many travelling marshals to keep track of the riders, in the event of anything untoward happening. No parents or non-officials will be allowed to ride the course.
The start area will be adjacent to the Bridge End section in the Scott Trial where overnight camping will be permitted. That parc ferme is roughly a mile from the famed CB Hotel where good meals and ale are the attractions, for the parents. For any youngster desiring to add some strong Scott Trial knowledge to his or her armoury sections like Windegg, Sleegill, Bridge End are on the agenda then it steps up a gear to ride Potters Bog, Mossgill, Arngill then Stang and then back to Bridge End.
