Girls rock the Lakes

THE most fascinating duel in last weekend's Lakes Two Day National was undoubtedly the amazing Ladies dice between Katy Sunter and Maria Conway. It was doubly interesting because both girls were not just enjoying a personal head to head but effectively fighting for a podium in the Clubman class. The outcome was in the balance right up to the final section - and both spectators and riders alike admired the sheer skill and determination of the girls. In the end it was fitting that they both lost exactly the same marks finishing a magnificent seventh and eighth.
Chris Myers, winner of the Air-cooled Mono class on his venerable Yamaha was just one of the guys reflecting on having been beaten by a girl for the first time in his career. Not just one, laughed Chris but two!
Yes, but we were riding modern bikes! offered a kind Katy. That makes it worse said Chris, they are making excuses for me as well!
I tell you, there is no disgrace being beaten by British girls. Katy and Maria are just two reasons why British Ladies are so strong the moment. Forget the Trial des Nations result - Britain is currently the strongest country in the world for Ladies trials - and it is only going to get better.
