NATIONAL Small-wheel 85cc riders Greg Evans (BSMA), pictured, and Curtis Blamey (BYMX) from South Wales, are just two of the bright young prospects who have signed up to a totally new exciting training initiative which is being backed by Cardiff city council, the ACU, and a host of top flight Welsh pro motocrossers.
Cardiff based Foreshore MXC with co-ordinator Mark Thomas at the helm, is one of the latest clubs to affiliate themselves to the ACU and have gained full project status.
The first AGM of the fledgling club was held last Wednesday where a double mandate was outlined.
The most exciting aspect for all young Welsh based talent is the formation of a dedicated Youth Training Academy where notable Welsh stars including Mark Jones, David Gillet, Glen Philips, Jamie Lewis and Ashley Greedy will be in attendance, and all have agreed to help out with the individual tuition. The activities will all be based at the newly revamped Cardiff CMX centre.
The other interesting aspect of the club will be a training programme aimed at educating Illegal off-road riders who have been referred to them by the local authorities.
The scheme will be designed to give them a chance to experience the sport in an organised, safe and structured way. Cardiff city council has a forward thinking attitude to the growing problem of off-road abuse, and similar schemes have seen a significant drop in illegal activities.
