GORDON Crockard, the prodigal son of Ulster motocross, is due to make a welcome return at Seaforde, Co Down, this Monday, July 14.
The occasion is the Knock club's fifth round of the Ulster championship which is being disputed by Stuart Edmunds and Wayne Garrett.
Confirming Crockard's first local appearance this year, Malcom Beattie, the Sports Development Officer, said, "Crockard will ride a 450 Suzuki provided by the Suitor brothers through their Body Tech vehicle repair business. Crockstar is sure to add spice to an already red-hot local season. He is taking a summer break from the American Grand National cross-country championships and that allows him to pick and choose some of his favourite events.”
Three-times a British champion and a grand prix winner, Crockard's last home appearance was at Tandragee last September when he rode a Honda.
"At this time of the year it's just too hot to race in the States,” explained Crockard. "I must say that I'm looking forward to Seaforde, it's a tough course as I've found to my cost on a previous outing. Still, it will make a pleasant change to race again in front of my home crowd.”
It will be interesting to see how he compares with rising star Edmunds who leads Garrett by eight points in the race for the premier Ulster title.
