DANNY Boyde, who so tragically lost his life following a car crash recently, will be sadly missed by motocross in general and by the IoM Schoolboys' Motocross Club in particular, writes Lionel Cowin.

Always prepared to listen to advice, his swashbuckling style and determination on the Big-wheel 85cc KTM was a joy to behold. His lanky frame dwarfed the machine and, try as he did, he struggled throughout last year to stay on terms with the top runners but he never gave up and provided endless entertainment with his sheer exuberance.

Towards the end of the '06 season he moved up to the 125 class, winning his class at the final two meetings of the year, and there was no hesitation among the club committee when it came to naming him the club's ‘Most Improved Rider' of 2006 and his brave parents Diane and Mark picked up his awards to standing ovations at Saturday night's annual prize night.

Guest of honour at the function, attended by 250 riders, parents, relatives and supporters, was world enduro champion David Knight, who started his motocross career with the club in the mid-90s.

An excellent night was had by all the 2006 club champions are as follows:

Auto: Nathan Harrison.

Junior: Callan Cooper.

Small-wheel 85cc: Michael Evans.

Big-wheel 85cc: Dayle Collister.

Youth 125cc: Jack Faragher

Adult: Michael Jackson.

Each collected a special No.1 plate from Knighter, which they are pictured with here in a great Jan Henry photo.
