WITH the opening two rounds of the Metzeler British Enduro Championship - the Hafren and Tywi enduros - rapidly approaching, officials from both organising teams have both confirmed that they are ready for business and that both events have secured much needed financial support thanks to generous title sponsorship.
With just over a month until this year's BECseries gets under way, entries for the first round, the Hafren Enduroto be staged in Llanidloes on July 14 and 15, are full to bursting. Theorganising Hafren DBC has secured sponsorship from Putoline lubricantsand hopes to "put on an event as good as the European round staged in2005."
With the second round of the series taking placejust two weeks afterwards, the Dyfed Dirt Bike Club-organised TywiEnduro has also recently been successful in attracting sponsorship fromtwo businesses local to the event - Aber Heating and MEM Construction.
''We are delighted to be sponsors of the HafrenEnduro,'' commented John Hayden, Managing Director of PutolineLubricants. ''As part of the trade area, Putoline will have a range ofproducts on display and staff to answer any technical questions. One ofthe new Putoline Oil race support vehicles will be in attendance at theHafren Enduro. These vehicles will be attending many off-road eventsduring the remainder of the season.''
This year's opening BEC event will take a similarformat to when it was last run as a round of the European Series in2005. The start area will once again be at Llanidloes Rugby Club justoutside of the town.
''Months of preparation have gone into the course, which will be a 45-mile lap of predominantly forest going with somefarmland,'' confirmed club member Rowan Jones. ''The club has hadmachines in grading the hardest tracks and have been busy finding sometotally new going as well.''
There will be two special tests at the Hafren, both in the same locations as the Euro round. The motocross test willbe close to the start on a huge grass field and will feature undulatingterrain that club members reckon will create some awesome natural jumps.
The enduro test will be at Glynhafen Farm justbeside the Hafren Forest and will be a real mix of grass fields, natural jumps, woodland tracks and some more technical rocky sectionsand single track.
Not to be outdone, the Tywi Enduro recentlyreceived some excellent news when it was confirmed that two localbusinesses will be providing hefty financial support for this year'sTwo-day Enduro. The two firms involved are Aber Heating, run by MarkSandford, and MEM Construction which is run by Mark Mosley.
Both gentlemen are keen enduro enthusiasts andtheir sponsorship, along with Metzeler, will allow the club to improveon what was already an excellent event last year with the fantasticstart venue Pavilion and hard-standing car park secured. The event willnow be called The Aber Heating - MEM Construction' Tywi Two-day Enduro.
Dyfed DBC's preparations for the second round ofthe series are going to plan with the club having found lots of newgoing and an even longer, improved cross-country test, which this yearincludes woodland and moorland crossings as well as last year'stechnical stream sections and flowing grassland stretches. All of whichshould add up to what the club reckons will likely be the longest testever used in the BEC to date.
The club is, once again, using the spectatorfriendly Bont MX venue for its motocross test and a shorter day onSaturday is guaranteed this year with an earlier start time of 9am andless saddle time for all but the Championship boys. Clubman riders willbe required to ride one-and-a-half laps per day this year instead oflast years energy sapping two-laps.
Championship riders will ride two-and-a-half laps, and Experts two-laps. With an extended cross-country test the clubplans to give the riders two tight checks this year. This again willmake for a more relaxing ride for Clubman level riders.
Light entertainment, refreshments and a nice roastdinner are also available on Saturday evening while spares/ kit etcwill be available at the start area throughout the weekend.
Entries are filling up nicely so with onlysix-weeks to go, the club urges riders to hurry up and get entry formsreturned to secure a ride in what is a "mini" version of the WelshTwo-day Enduro.
