FINDING themselves precariously positioned in a small window of fine weather in a week of horrendous rainfall was pure luck. Making the most of it however, and well deserved too after recent disappointments was a job well done. The Cotswold Youth and AMX Club pulled off a brilliant success as the course at Bromyard dried out perfectly to provide a superb racing circuit for it's leg of the BSMA Semi-Finals.

With vital qualifying points up for grabs there was no lack ofenthusiasm and commitment from a quality field, all battling for thoseimportant top ten places for the August finals.

When either totally dominating from the front or quickly picking offthe early leaders it was obvious from the opening laps that Mark Gunterwas in a class of his own and he romped away with four superb race winsin the AMX section in a stunning display. Behind him a gaggle of ridersfought it out for the other top positions with Scott Williams the bestof a well matched bunch as Rob Lewis, Terry House, Craig Badman, TimTruman and Andy Watkins all chipped in at various times in acompetitive section.

Ben Field and Lewis Trickett with three race wins between themtotally stole the show in the Senior class, finishing in first andsecond places respectively. Ben topped out courtesy of a last race winafter tying on points, but it was Lewis who took the plaudits for thebest race of the day, ripping his way through the pack in race two andpassing everyone except race winner Rory Merchant. Rory to his creditfinished in third overall while Sam Sunderland, Darren Webster, andLiam Davies finished off a tight top six.

As the gate dropped on the opening laps of the Big-wheel 85ccsection it always looked like being a three way shootout for tophonours, and at the end of the day that's how it turned out. ChambersWhittle and David Sweet, as well as they rode on the day, just couldnot match the pace of a flying Alfie Smith. Alfie ended the day with aclean sweep of four wins in an impressive performance. Chambers Whittletook second place overall from David Sweet with Jordan Richards infourth.

Luke Dean on the Team Relentless Suzuki has been in scorching formall season and it was that fine form that propelled him to two racewins and the overall victory with a super confident display in theSmall-wheel 85cc section. Tom Rodgers took the other two race wins, tying on points with Luke, but had to settle for second overall. Therewere other good performances from Chris Grindle in third overall withChase Neale, Jack Timms and Jordan Goodwin completing the top six.

Corrie Southwood, with a string of polished performances, stood headand shoulders above the rest in the Junior 65cc dust-up. With theability to discount the worst result of four on the day Corrie finishedwith a maximum points haul and top qualifier honours. A greatperformance came from Danny Lanfear as he took a superb second race winand two second places to finish as runner-up. Josh Newell was lookinggood in third, likewise Robert Yates in fourth overall, while othergood individual race rides from Daffid Evans, Ciran Williams, TaylorVernon and Greg Evans.
