WITH the 2009 Irish trials season fast approaching, the Irish Grade A Championship has received a welcome boost from the 2008 Ulster trials series sponsor. The 2009 Irish Trials Championship, commences on Saturday, September 6, with the Ards club's Turner Trial at the Lead Mines, Newtownards, which will be the opening round of the Lunneys Electrical for Sanyo Grade A Irish Championship. Following the success of his sponsorship of last years Ulster Championship, David Lunney has decided to support the Grade A Irish Championship, again with the added input from Sanyo.
Due to his University commitments, 2008 Ulster Champion Harold McQuaid will not compete the entire season against the 2008 Irish Champion Michael Burton. There will no doubt however, be a close battle all season throughout the class as Burton will be eager to challenge the enthusiastic Sean Doyle and experienced Gareth Andrews. Former champion Andrew Perry should also provide a threat with former winners McQuaid and Robert Crawford hopefully making appearances throughout the series. With an attractive prize fund of £500, £300 and £200 for the first three, along with the professional image of rider bibs displaying name and 2008 Championship finishing positions, this series is attractive to both riders and spectators.
Lunneys Electrical is a family-run Electrical Superstore, established in Portadown in 1967 by John Lunney with the business now controlled by John's son David.
