Head for Halton Gill
By TMX Archives on 8th Jul 11
Bradford Motor Club will stage the old established traditional National Allan Jefferies Trophy Trial at Halton Gill, at the head of remote Littondale, on Sunday, writes Barry Robinson.
The Jefferies has run in the Yorkshire Dales for the past 73 years where the Halton Gill Reading Rooms become trial headquarters, and A la Carte feeding centre is courtesy of the combined efforts of the Halton Gill Ladies group. Do NOT miss out on the home-made tea and cakes!
Some changes have been made since last year to extend the course more or less to it's original length which will be enjoyed by an entry list of over one hundred riders.
The road based trial heads towards Settle from remote Halton Gill, taking in sections on the west of the road then a couple of miles and up into the usual mists of Fountains Fell. It's then down the track, where Boyd Webster had a big endo years ago, to refuel at Wilks Pastures, then over the moors to Yockenthwaite and Raisgill. From those sections it is up Park Rash and then to Diamond Pastures. Take a deep breath and then its off to Wilkinson's famed garage at Kettlewell for a fuel stop before heading for Kilnsey, Sleets, Wilks Pasture and the grand finale up Halton Gill waterfall. Time allowance is seven hours and the observing rule is TSR22A.
Ian Austermuuhle, Dan Thorpe and Guy Kendrew headed the hard course last year while Mark Holland, Darren Mitchell and Tony Holmes led the Clubmen home. That sextet are entered again as is Ben Morphett, Phil Disney, Sam Haslam, Richard Sadler, Will Reynolds and Nathan Wrigglesworth. Paul Bennett and road race boss Rob McElnea add flavour along with David Braithwaite and Katie Sunter. First man starts at 10.01 am.
