Heerde instinct

THIS year's FIM Junior World Motocross Championships were held at the wooded track at Heerde in Holland. The KNMV club had prepared the superb sand track to welcome the 30 countries from around the world and what an excellent display by all the riders was witnessed with British riders right in the thick of the action challenging for podium finishes and wins.
It was a superb effort from the UK contingent but at the end of the day it was Holland's Jeffery Herlings and Latvian Mattis Karro who ruled supreme to walk away with the World titles under their belt.
Saturday over the Great Britain team had five riders through in the 85cc class; Max Anstie, Daniel Hutchinson, Bradley Pocock, Ryan Houghton, and Marcus Lee Soper, while in the MX2 class three riders made it through to the main races on Sunday; Mel Pocock, Steven Clarke, and Joe Gregory.
The rest went to the LCQ and with only the top four getting through, and the next two as reserves, all the riders had to put in a good race, to make it too the main races.
Jordan Thompson and Jack Kelly tried their hardest in the 85cc class but failed to make the cut, while in the MX2 LCQ David Games made it to second reserve in the main race after finishing sixth. Tom Kelly, and Lewis King both on 125 two strokes struggled all day in the deep sand but finished behind Games in seventh and eighth, Lewis Tombs had a miserable time but ended up in tenth, and Josh Waterman, who also suffered bike problems all day finished in 18th.
Race one of the main championship races was the 85cc class and favourite to win the class, Max Anstie, claimed a stunning start to finish win ahead of rival Jeffery Herlings and really give the Brits something to cheer about.
Daniel Hutchinson in his first world championship race finished in seventh with Marcus Lee Soper 12th, Ryan Houghton 19th, and Bradley Pocock, who showed well early on, down in 23rd.
Race two was again all about Anstie and Herlings as they changing places in the first half of the race, but disaster struck the unfortunate Anstie who went out with a mechanical problem leaving Herlings to take the race two win and the overall title of world champ.
Hutchinson again showed he wasn't afraid of the track or the competition, coming home in sixth just behind an impressive Pocock who had held third position early on in the race before mistakes put him down into fifth. Houghton again rode well to take 12th place while Soper finished down in 26th.
With Anstie going out in race two overall fifth position and the honour of highest Brit went to Hutchinson while Anstie finished seventh overall with Pocock 11th, Houghton 16th, and Soper 18th. So not a bad result five Brits in the top 20.
