THE ACU Maxxis British Championship reaches new Heights' this weekend. Round one at Little Silver was a fantastic start to the season and it will be a hard act to follow, but if there's a club in this country that can put on a good show it has to be Sidcup and District MCC at its very own track, Canada Heights.
Yes after a year missing from the series calendar, the second round of the ACU Maxxis British Championship in back to one of the best tracks in the county. Having had the winter to prepare, club members have built a new storage barn and have primed the circuit to perfection in readiness for Sidcup's biggest meeting of the year.
Grand Prix riders Sebastien Pourcel, Marcus Schiffer, Valentin Teillet will join round one GP riders Zach Osborne, Arnaud Tonus, Shaun Simpson, Jason Dougan, Mattis Karro, Graeme Irwin and Jordan Booker.
Sadly due to an unfortunate injury, GP regular and currently placed third in the MX2 British Championship rankings, Jake Nicholls, will be out of action due to a broken ankle for at least six-weeks.
In MX1, Buildbase CCM's Stephen Sword will be hoping to get his championship back on track after two DNFs and a moto victory at Little Silver while team-mate, Tom Church, had a successful day finishing second overall to LS Honda's Shaun Simpson and surprise race one winner Jason Dougan. The latter is now sitting in third in the points table aboard his Bike It Cosworth Wild Wolf Yamaha.
Factory Kawasaki rider, Pourcel, will be sure to mix it at the top, but Shaun Simpson is a talented rider and will be one to catch around one of his favourite venues.
In MX2, Bike It Cosworth Wild Wolf Yamaha's Arnaud Tonus leads the way in front of Route-77 MVR-D's Matiss Karro and third-placed HM Plant Red Bull KTM's Jake Nicholls, but with two race wins and a DNF at Little Silver, Zach Osborne is sure to be up at the front.
Samsung Yamaha rider, Kristian Whatley, will be hoping to please team-owner Roy Emberson at the closest race to the team's London base.
The weather forecast is good and the racing is guaranteed to be great, especially with the mix of the new wild-card riders. This meeting is not far short of a mini GP, so lets see you hanging over the famous chestnut fencing as the riders leap up the ‘Steps' and lets see who comes away with the bragging rights.
The event also includes the first round for the MXY2 class, so there will be plenty of bar-banging to support the six action-packed British Championship races.
The MXY2 class features some of the brightest talents coming out of the Youth ranks, including the likes of James Dunn, Bradley Pocock, Ryan Houghton, Jake Millward, Dan Thornhill and Harry Snow. Dunn, particularly, will be coming into the opening round on top form after winning the recent opening round of the BYMX championship at Brampton.
Practice begins at 9am and the first race is due to start at 12.15pm. Canada Heights can be reached by following the AA signposts at Junction 3 off the M20/ M25 interchange and for those of you using SatNav you will need to tap in BR8 8DX to get your directions.
