Colunists

ONE of the AMCA's newest clubs, Cymru Off-Road, held its first event on Sunday. Set in the rolling hills of mid-Wales, at Abbey Cwm Hir, near Llandrindod Wells, the event proved to be a steep learning curve for the club officials, but they adapted, improvised and overcame all hurdles and succeeded in completing its first event, albeit in a bedraggled manner.

Status Quads helped the club enormously, by supplying them with a 4x4 Quad to help with marshalling duties. Status Quads also turned up the day before the event and provided support throughout the set-up period and during the races. Sponsorship is an important factor and the guys at Cymru acknowledged that they would have struggled to stage the event without such support. Wulfsport and Silverback Racing also provided plenty of help and support to make sure this initial event was a success.

The weather was awful, rain throughout the day, then torrential rain as the event drew to a close, which certainly didn't help the already muddy conditions. The venue is regularly used as a 4x4 training area and deep ruts throughout the course provided many riders with a real headache.

Three races were planned. Youth Quads, followed by Adult Quads, then Solos. The club had been a little over-optimistic with the time allowance for each race but they soon realised that none of the riders would complain if they shortened the races to help cope with the treacherous conditions.

For a first event the turnout was very good. Over 100 quads split between the Youth and Adult classes and 30-plus solo riders.
