REIGNING Enduro 3 World Champion David Knight (pictured right) was putting the finishing touches to his preparations ahead of the opening round of the US Grand National Cross-Country Series when T+MX went to press earlier this week, hampered by the hand injury he picked up prior to the Le Touquet Beach Race.

With a fractured bone in his left hand Knight, along with the rest of his KTM Red Bull Off Road Team, spent much of Monday running through final checks ahead of what is expected to be the toughest race of the US GNCC series. Having been forced to sit out the teams official test session two-weeks ago due to his injured hand, Knight was still up-beat about the upcoming race in Florida.

''There's never really a good time to get hurt but going into the first round of the series injured, especially with the second race just five-days later, isn't the ideal way to start the season,'' commented Knight. ''There's a lot of people expecting me to continue where Juha left off but I know that I'm not 100 per cent so I'm not too worried about winning the first couple of races. It's a long season so I just want to get the first two races under my belt and get as good a result as I can.''

Having had pain killing injections in his hand in the hope of reducing the discomfort when riding, Knight finished his preparations in good spirits despite knowing just how tough conditions at The Triton GNCC will be. With several days of quad racing and practicing having taken place ahead of the main solo races the soft Florida sand will make for an exceptionally rough, rutted and unforgiving track.
