As temperatures soared in Washougal there was a repeat of last week's AMA Motocross results when Ryan Dungey and Trey Canard walked away with their respective classes at the eighth round of the Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship at Washougal MX Park in Washington, both riders claiming their wins with 1-1 scorecards.
Dungeys seventh overall win in the 450 class now sees him reach a staggering 95-point advantage over his nearest rival, Andrew Short, who claimed second overall.
Much the same as Dungey's previous victories, the Suzuki ace took his time to make accurate passes before reaching the front and powering through to secure wins.
Meanwhile, Andrew Short remains the man to beat out of the gates as he took both holeshots before succumbing to the pressure from Dungey and holding onto second in both motos.
Third on the podium at Washougal was Honda's Brett Metcalfe. Metcalfe rode the first moto at the front, claiming third. However, a fall in the second moto left the Honda rider with some work to do. At the flag he was able to get back to fifth, enough to claim third overall.
KTM's Mike Alessi had another disappointing outing. An average sixth place in the first moto was the least of Alessis problems when the 350cc-mounted rider was caught up in a second turn pile-up, re-starting near last.
Alessi fought back but it was never to be as he ran out of track and was forced to settle for 13th place and 11th overall.
In the 250 class, Trey Canard appeared to have an easy day as he secured his third overall in a row. After a few scrapes early on Canard hit the front in both motos and never looked back, taking each win by a considerable margin.
Current series leader Christophe Pourcel remained consistent and took second overall with a pair of second place finishes, whilst his Kawasaki team-mate, Tyla Rattray took the third step on the podium with a 4-3 finish.
This week, Dean Wilson finished down the order after a crash in the opening moto and a 6-6 finish, just being pushed out of fifth by Blake Wharton who took a better race two finish.
Britain's Tommy Searle made a welcome return to the top ten as he finished 10-7 for a solid eighth overall.
The series now takes a two week break before resuming at Unadilla on August 14, where James Stewart is expected to make a return to the 450 class.
