Italy job was real toughie
By Olly Stone on 12th Oct 12
Italy seemed to hammer the last nail in the coffin regarding Jake Nicholls and he and I cant wait for the season to be over.
The track was not prepared howanyone expected and was over-watered and underprepared. As a result the locals were on their game on Saturday.
With a suspension overhaul on Saturday night Jake was morecomfortable on the Sunday but a one-lined track and mistakes cost him.
With Everyone disappointed we could only look forward to Germany in two weeks' time to try and secure fourth in the championship.
The following Thursday was our final chance to ride Lommel before it was shut for the Motocross of Nations.
With a long list of parts and set ups to test it was a long afternoon but now we are 100 per cent ready.
Securing fourth place in the world championship in Germany was a good finish to the season.
Everyone on the team was happy with that and with Jake getting full factory support for next year 2013 is looking good for a podium finish.
I had no time to stop and party though as it was a mad rush back to base to prepare for the biggest race Belgium has had in years.
I'm writing this the day after the whole country witnessed my bike grenade itself into a huge cloud of water and oil at the Motocross of Nations.
Disappointing sums it up. The sand of Lommel took its toll on it and the motor gave out.
That's motocross I guess. It's always hard to accept a dnf but unfortunately it's part of the job.
But on a more positive note it was a huge honour to represent Team GB at the race and definitely the highlight of my career to date.
As always the Sunday night ended in a crazy party with all the mechanics and riders getting, shall we say, a little worse for wear.
With just one Dutch championship race left and some sponsor stuff to do, the season really is over.
My life can go back to normality and the 9-5 days can begin.
And by the end of the month I'll be back home in England until the new year.
Then it starts all over again.
Until next month, take it steady...
