Trials champs shock change
By TMX Archives on 26th Oct 12

THE ACU made the shock announcement last week to the effect that they plan not one but TWO British Solo Trials Championships for 2013 and are inviting parties interested in sponsoring either or both series to get in touch.
Following the experiment of the no-stop rules 2012 British Championship in – won by James Dabill – it appears that no concensus on whether it was good or bad has been reached so the ACU is now hedging its bets.
The first series is the British Solo Trials Championship – Stop Allowed Rules ( TSR 22A).
Details are being finalised but it is envisaged that this would be a three-round Championship, run on a restricted area closed course, each round of one or two day duration.
Entries would be limited to a max of 25/30 riders of proven
ability in possibly two classes.
The second series is the British No-Stop Trials Championship. (TSR 22B) with possibly four or five rounds, each round of one or two day duration.
These events would follow a similar format to the 2012 Championship BUT without the practice lap.
Any interested parties regarding the sponsorship should contact Alison Devine at the ACU Office (alison@ acu.org.uk or 01788-566409) or John Collins (01639-882241 or johncollinsemail@yahoo.co.uk)
The announcement of this two championship series came as a shock to both the riders and the trials bike importers.
The importers were of course instrumental in the change to a no-stop formula for 2012 and got involved in helping the clubs run the events, particularly trying to get some consistency in the level of
sections set.
Since the series concluded no subsequent meeting has taken place between the trials committee and the trials importers
As TMX was going to press we understand that a private promoter was seeking a meeting with ACU Chairman Brian Higgins with a view to setting up a single championship on a professional basis.
Rules would be open to discussion with the idea being to try and put trials out there to the public.
Meanwhile the Trials & Enduro Committee are pleased to confirm the continued support in 2013 of S3 Parts for the ACU National Trials Championship and Luscombe Suzuki Leeds for the Sidecar and Youth Championships.
