WITH the World stars heading to Ireland for the first round of the World Championship it seems the rest of Britain's trials riders are heading to Rhayader for the fourth round of both the British Sidecar Championship and the Normandale sponsored ACU Traditional Trials Series. A healthy total of 25 sidecars are headed by reigning champs Jon Tuck with Matt Sparkes and this duo will be under pressure from the old hands of the Luscombes and the Morewoods. Both these family crews have a liking for the Rhayader sections and will be aiming to give the youngsters a run for their money.
Another bumper entry of 125 Solos are entered in the Traditional series with all the leading runners present and headed by Dave Thorpe, Neil Gaunt, John Maxfield, Chris Koch and Ian Baker to name just a few.
There are some interesting names amongst the rest, including eight from the the Isle of Man, mounted on Twin-shocks and led by Juan Knight and James Teare. Meanwhile, some former names from the sidecar world are these days giving it a go on solos including Adrian Clarke on a Greeves and Phil Scott on a Beta.
The course is roughly 25 miles in length, starting from the centre of Rhayader and taking in some old favourite sections plus some brand new ones unearthed to test the entry.
The first man will be flagged away at 9.30am. Anybody who would like a day out observing would be made very welcome; just make contact with Malcolm on 01547-550393.
