With a bundle of nerves, and violently sick before the start of the South Shropshire MC C&D National Youth Champion-ship trial on Saturday,
runner-up in the C class at round one, Iwan Roberts, started badly at section one but improved from thereon, although losing out to first round winner Billy Bolt by one mark at the end of the first of three, 12-section laps.
Second time round, both riders were level on ten marks each, but Roberts pulled away on lap three with another ten mark total. Bolt added 22 to his score, but set up a serious challenge in round three, both level at the top and safely clear of Jack Price on points who was easily beaten by Dan Peace on the day.
Three marks behind Price, James Stones recorded a hefty first lap score, but improved on his next two circuits, ending his day far ahead of Roberts, home club fellow rider Dewi Jones who outrode Danny Tuley and Isle of Man ace Joe Yeardsley.
Top of the Youth D class Medium-wheel four-rider entry, Jack Peace carried on his winning ways with win number two, again ahead of host club rider Sam Yeomans. Both hold their place clear of Sam Johnson who was followed on Saturday by Aaron Goodland having his first ride in this year's series, as was the small-wheel class winner Toby Martyn. Toby held off fellow first timer Joe Dawson, both far ahead on the day of round one winner Joe Hiley who was well beaten by Ben Teasdale, who now heads the series into round three, and James Posslethwaite.
At the end of a bitterly cold day at well over 1000 feet up near the top of the Shropshire Longmynd, every competitor went home with the trophies they so deservedly won, plus goodies generously donated by a long list of sponsors The catering van inside one of the farm buildings was also very welcome.
