JACK Thompson started the year off with his new Ace Trials Team by winning the A class at the YMSA Trials Trick Bits Trophy Trial' at Carsington Pastures on Sunday.
Thompson finished on 57 marks, pushing newly promoted Jack Sheppard into second place, although it was a creditable ride for Sheppard, a name to look out for this year. In third place Tyler Stephenson pushed all day and achieved his best result to date.
The Expert class was won by Lee Sampson, taking a break from his enduro riding for the day. He gave the A class riders on the same route a lesson, on a loss of just 10, showing he is still a class act on his MRS Sherco.
Harry Harvey took second place on 80 marks and in third was the ever improving Daniel Greatorex.
Richard Sadler travelled down country to take the B class honours and showed his intentions for this year, dropping only seven marks. He looked to be riding a different trial to everyone else.
Luke Walker, 2007 British and YMSA C class champion, moved up to B class for the very first time giving a good entry of B class lads a run for their money and, but for a five on Elain Thompson's hillclimb, he could have taken second place.
Joanne Coles, in the Ladies, class rode the same route as B class showing she can mix it with the best, dropping only 19 marks.
Dan Peace took the C class honours dropping 37 marks, pushing Billy Bolt to second and Ryan Laughton to third place.
D class started the season with a new name on top - Robert Carson riding a Beta, dropping 34 marks. Second place went to Sam Yeomans on 68 marks and third was Dan Peace, always giving his best.
