AN exciting new Youth motocross championship will take place later in the year when the ACU and BSMA join forces to promote the Champion of Champions 2008. Aimed at bringing together riders from both domestic series for a one-off event aimed at crowning a true' British champion in each racing division, the event was announced in a joint press release detailing the plans for the event which read as follows:
The BSMA and the ACU are pleased to announce a joint venture to establish a true British Youth champion. The event will be known as the 'Champion of Champions 2008' and this year will be held at the famous Foxhill track, near Swindon, Wilts, over the weekend of October 18/ 19.
There will be classes for Junior 65cc, Small-wheel and Big-wheel 85cc, and Senior (Youth Open) groups as well as a separate Open class for the adults. Riders will be invited to enter and will be selected by a panel made up of members of both organisations.
The format for this event will be unique and entries will be accepted from 40 Juniors and 60 rider in the 85cc and Senior classes who will then be divided into two groups of 30 picked at random. The best 17 from each group will go through to the final. and the top six from the non-qualifiers will also get a last chance to qualify for the race for the championship.
Prizes will only be awarded to the top three in each group. It is intended that this meeting will be an annual event with each organisation running the event on alternative years, with the other giving its full support. This is a true coming together of the organisations for the benefit of the sport and this event will be the most significant meeting in the Youth calendar. The event will be held under the jurisdiction of the BSMA standing rules and regulations and will be eligible to both BSMA and ACU licence holders.
