ROUND five of the Race Spec BSMA Series was held at Whiteway Barton on a revised date, unfortunately clashing with the British GP at Donington, but did not affect the high quality of racing with all the top race positions being hotly contested, no pun intended as the riders competed in the blistering heat.
Host club South West Association did an excellentjob with a perfectly prepared track and even with the high temperatureskept the dust under control. For the first time competitors at thisvenue it was a real eye opener compared to the relatively flat circuitin East Anglia, but we were to witness some fantastic racing.
Junior riders were first away both days but werenot intimidated by the big hills. Liam Knight, series leader, had analmost perfect weekend with three excellent wins and a second spot.Michael Burfield taking the second race win only to have a DNF in racethree. Taylor Vernon was very quick finishing second overall even aftera fall in race two just edging out Aaron Coupland who was veryimpressive all weekend and looked like taking the final moto only to becaught on the line by Liam Knight. Danny Lanfear, Greg Hyett andAlistair Evans all had a good weekend's racing.
Inter 85cc Small-wheel pilot Josh Brine startedday one as he finished the last meeting with two consecutive wins. Apoor start to the second day wih a second and third position still gavehim the overall finishing equal on points with the series leader MrConsistent, Daniel Thornhill, with an impressive race three win. JackTimms always in contention if not holeshotting made some mistakesfinishing in third place with a determined win in the final race, nothing more than he deserved for his weekend's efforts. Jim Lycett,Lloydd Lettett and Luke Newman completed the top six.
