THERE is a good chance that KTM will run three different models in the World MX1 GPs next summer.

After the successes against the four-strokes in the indoor arenas, Burkhardt Sarholz is keen to put Cedric Soubeyras (pictured right) in the GPs on the 250cc two-stroke. Stumbling block at the moment is that neither team nor rider has sufficient backing to finance the move on their own.

Burkhardt had hoped to discuss the idea with Mattighofen sport chiefs in Munich at the weekend, but that had to be put on hold as the German dealer was rushed to hospital last week for an emergency operation to remove kidney stones.

The last rider to post a top-six placing in the MX1 GPs on a two-stroke was Tanel Leok in 2004, when the Estonian narrowly missed the podium on the Isle of Wight aboard the MVR-D Suzuki before switching to the factory four-stroke vacated by the injured Joel Smets.
