THE International motocross season bursts into life this weekend February 10/11, as the 24th annual Starcross at Mantova, the now traditional curtain raiser to the international year gets everything under way in northern Italy.

The compact, supercross inspired Mantova circuit, not far from the city of Verona, has been the venue for some of the big debut rides for the sports stars over the years and the 2007 edition of the race will be no exception as the factory Yamaha, KTM, Honda, Suzuki and Kawasaki squads will all be in attendance, and their new team signings taking to the gate, as well as a host of the top private teams.

The unique Mantova format pits MX1 against MX2 in three heats and the good mix of top bona-fide championship contenders from both classes should make for a frantic and exciting first race of the season.

The start list reads like a who's who of the GP scene and of particular interest to British fans are entries of reigning British MX1 champion, Josh Coppins, who makes his debut for the Rinaldi Yamaha squad, new Motorex Kawasaki signing Billy MacKenzie, and Tommy Searle in the MX2 class who will also be making his full debut for the Stefan Everts guided KTM factory squad.
