A VERY healthy group of Quad riders took to the track on Sunday morning at Three Sisters, Wigan, and Irish Champion Mark Donnelly was fastest in practice though only
slightly in front of Cathal McCartan. It was McCartan, however, who took the victory in the first race followed by defending champion, Aaron Ebbitt, and then Donnelly. McCartan led race two ahead of Donnelly, and suffered a disaster in the form of a machine failure on the penultimate lap. This left Donnelly to take the win and lead Ebbitt over the line, with Daniel McDermott claiming third spot. Gareth Thomas pulled back well from his rear of the grid start position to secure sixth spot. Then, in the final race, he pulled out all the stops to secure third place. Donnelly led Ebbitt in the final race, leaving Aaron with three second place finishes on the day. Steve Butler had a good day with a fifth and two fourth place finishes, while Sam Hodgson led his elder brother on points with his highest position in ninth. After round one of the series, which is going to be a very exciting one, Mark Donnelly leads Aaron Ebbitt by only two points in the Open class while Damien McCardle leads the 450cc category.
