Solid Sagar stays on top

AS there were no official results available from the opening round of the British Enduro Championship as T+MX was going to press this week, we can only apologise profusely for the lack of a comprehensive report.
News from Scotland suggests that defending British Enduro Champion Tom Sagar still remains the man at the top of the 2008 BEC series after solid results at the Lossiemouth Enduro. But while Tom holds on at the top of the Championship class points standings, Paul Edmondson, who crashed out of the opening round of the championship, was the man to beat on day one as he took full advantage of the fact that Tom stalled his bike in the final test of day one to take the top spot before then battling with Tom for victory on day two. The only round of the BEC series to take place in Scotland, the Lossiemouth Enduro proved to be even colder than the opening round of the WEC series in Sweden as sleet, snow, and a bitterly cold wind, on day one, made conditions tough for all riders. With the event featuring two special tests – one beach-side Enduro test and one Motocross test, a number of Championship class riders dropped time during the weekend with Daryl Bolter failing to finish day two after posting the fourth quickest special test times on day one. Championship leader Tom Sagar was still recovering from the heavy fall that put him out of last weekend's WEC round in Sweden and in such a closely contested competition Paul Edmondson was primed to take the first day. Tom was runner-up, while Daryl Bolter was third ahead of Greg Evans. Greg won the first test of the day but lost time on the last test when he crashed and got sand in his fuel pipe. Evans again won the first test on the second day but his chain snapped and he dropped almost 20 minutes to end a weekend of cruel weather and cruel fortune. Unofficially, Sagar won day two from Edmondson with Simon Wakely taking third spot. Results will, of course, be printed in next week's T+MX.
