Maxxis '11 series sorted – almost

ACU Events has recently confirmed the venues for the first seven rounds (of eight) for the 2011 Maxxis British Motocross Championship.
There are not many surprises in the circuits chosen, as it was clearly stated during the 2010 series that visiting road-race venues was not the way fans really wanted to go, admitting they prefered more traditional tracks, foresaking the facilities on offer at road-race venues if necessary.
However, ACU Events will organise round four at the ACU's own facility at Milton Park, near Northampton, which got the thumbs up after hosting the final round of the MX323 championship in October.
Last year's ‘Organiser of the Year', Foxhill obviously returns as it is in the middle of a five-year agreement and Lyng and Duns had to be included because of their ability for making the day special.
Surprisingly, after the success this year, Farleigh Castle has not been included, but it would appear that it is pencilled-in for 2012.
Series manager, Brian Higgins, explains: "Farleigh is a special place and it needs to be kept special and returning year after year would not do it justice.
"There was a decade of it not being on the championship schedule until we visited the Somerset venue this season. I can assure you it will not be as long before it appears again.”
The two circuits which are back on the schedule – Canada Heights and Desertmartin – are old favourites and have been known to bring in the largest audiences.
Again Higgins elaborated: "Traditionally Canada Heights would have made a good opening round but the Sidup Club asked for an extra three-weeks to prepare the circuit after the winter weather.
"Meanwhile, Porters Pit, at Desertmartin, is a special venue. We have to take into account the cost of travel, but we hope to have special discounts in place for teams, riders and spectators for the event in 2011 year.”
After proving to be one of the few tracks in the country which could cope with a week of rain prior to its inagural event in 2010, Little Silver will now host the opening round on a circuit which can cope with all eventualities.
