Vale MXC caught up with Nez Parker as he took on the Freestyle ramps for the Monster Energy Arenacross last weekend.

Nez used to be a Vale club regular in his younger days  and the club threw a few questions his way.

VMXC: What are your memories of racing with The Vale when you were younger?

NP: I remember racing at The Vale was always good fun and good racing. Everybody just enjoyed being there and this is what they lived for. When it gets more serious you lose that aspect of it, which is a shame.

VMXC: What are your thoughts on the new Vale MXC starting up?

NP: I think it's great that clubs are still running local events and championships. There are so many motocross events running every weekend and so the riders are usually spread quite thin.

But hopefully with The Vale being a long established club, that has been refreshed again and it will attract good numbers.

VMXC: You started out riding at club level like our riders and worked hard to get to the top, you have now switched to freestyle, how are you enjoying it?

NP: Yeah my best racing memories are of my days in the schoolboys ranks and racing at local club events.  I feel like I have done quite well in the sport for just a normal guy without massive financial support, so I'm happy with how my career went – other than the injuries.

I moved across to Freestyle for a new challenge and because I feel it's almost safer than racing... there is only me who can cause a crash or mistake.

I'm enjoying just riding my bike and to be doing the full Arenacross series is a pretty good deal for me.

VMXC: What advice would you give our riders who want to make it to the top in motocross?

NP: To get far in racing you just need a good work ethic, train hard and keep positive as there will be so many set-backs along the way. Nobody has an easy ride to the top.
