EASTER weekend, Sunday, April 12, sees the opening round of the MC Federation's Women's MX Nationals at Cusses Gorse, near Salisbury. The new four round series runs in conjunction with the Fuchs-Silkolene Two-stroke championship and it looks set to be hotly contested right from the off. No doubt about it, Women's Motocross is becoming more popular and the MCF is keen to make sure that the girls have a slice of action and a championship they can be proud of winning.
If you look to America and now at the GP's, more and more young women are racing motocross. We know that there isn't the same number of girls racing in the UK as much as in some other parts of the world, but we want to spread the word that it's happening and give the girls a decent championship and the coverage they deserve. Now with a World Ladies Motocross Championship it would be great to think we could help produce a future champion by creating a series that enables them to improve and the interest in women's MX to grow further, reckons the MCF's Jeff Perrett.
Already it seems to be working as Britain's top female racer MVR-D Suzuki's Natalie Kane has signed up for the season and has to start as hot favourite.
She'll be kept honest and on her toes by CCM Racing's factory pilot, Alix Dunlop, who'll be keen to give the British manufacture a domestic title in her first year with them. There's even interest all the way from the southern hemisphere as top Kiwi racer, Nikki Scott, will be making her UK debut for Hanson Racing as she looks set to follow in the footsteps of fellow Kiwi Ben Townley and become a world champion.
Nikki will be starting her European adventure at the always perfectly presented Cusses Gorse track.
Promising Scottish racer Kerry Wilson will be making the long journey south to put herself in the mix too along with the rest of the girls. And with the all the action of the Fuchs-Silkolene championship running alongside, the weekend has all the potential to be a cracker.
There are still entries available for Women's Nationals, so girls wishing to take part and strut their stuff are asked to e-mail secretary@mcfederation.com or call 01865-342107 to secure an entry.
