Monkey business
By Jonny Walker on 28th Sep 12

This month has been a lot more fun for me as, following my shoulder operation, Im back riding. As soon as I could be back on the bike I took the chance.
I started with easy practicing, just getting back into it but after just two days' riding I was feeling sore with monkey butt and blisters on the hands.
I was practising with my usual training partner, Jamie Law, doing 30-minute motos and that was really tiring me out, so I decided it would be a good idea to go and race to see if I was fit and strong enough to do a real enduro.
Luckily there was a local enduro for me at the weekend – the Graythwaite – so I went there to see if I could actually finish a full day's racing.
And I surprised myself to be honest as I finished and felt fine, didn't get any arm pump and had no problems.
The next morning when I woke up was a different story though, my shoulder was killing me so off I went to get punished by the physio in Manchester.
While down there I got an invite to the Red Bull flight school in Ipswich and I had no hesitation in saying, yes, I'll go – with all the hot chicks that will be there – and when I arrived I was not disappointed.
While I was there I met loads of new people and had a really cool time, such a good time that we (me and two other Red Bull athletes) even got my 300 KTM out the van and rode it three-up through the manor and into the room where they were getting the lessons!
The next day I headed home to get ready for the ‘rideoffroaduk' two-and-a-half hour race, as I'm trying hard to get up to fitness.
This was a good race for me to go and do as it had little extreme parts and also a flat-out grass test.
I was happy to win the race but was dreading the next day's recovery.
Now I'm back at home all this week and I've been on my bike a few times but feel a bit gutted as I can't be in Germany to represent GB in the ISDE.
I wish them all the best of luck and hope all goes well for them.
My next big race is the Sea to Sky enduro in Turkey which I am trying to get fit for.
I'm thinking of doing a couple of local races beforehand as you can't beat racing and having the competition.
I've also booked to go and watch Herlings kick ass at the Des Nations in a couple of weeks so I'm looking forward to going there with some mates.
And I will no doubt have a few good stories to tell from there...
So maybe I'll see you there – but if not I'll see you around.
