Move for Italian GP

THE Italian GP on April 10/11, second round of the MX1/MX2 world series, has been moved from the hillside venue of Fermo to the all-weather sand track at Mantova. The reason for the last minute switch is the inability of the Fermo organisers to complete the necessary work on the infrastructure before the date of the event.
A spokesman explained: It has hardly stopped raining in the region for three-months, and there have been massive delays in getting the work done. Fermo will now host the final round of the world championship on September 11/12, and Mantova will take over the April date.
As T+MX went to press confirmation was still awaited from series promoter Youthstream and the FIM, but the Italian federation and DBO, the organisation with the contract to run all GPs in Italy, have already made the switch public on the federation website.
Those who have booked flights to Ancona will face a drive of around the same distance in the opposite direction, while anyone who has made reservations to Bologna or Ravenna now have shorter road trips in Italy. The major additional cost factor will come for those who have already paid hotel reservations close to Fermo as the venues are around 150-miles apart.
