THIS coming Sunday (February 27) sees the 83rd running of the oldest National trial in the calendar, the Stratford club's Colmore Cup. The start venue is Downs Farm which is situated one mile from the centre of Bourton on the Hill and will be signposted from the A44 Morton in Marsh road and the start time is an early 9.01am.

It needs an early start as there is a ‘full house' sign up with no less than 120 entries for this second round of the 2010 Novogar series. What has pleased the club is the spread of entries throughout all of the classes so there should be plenty of superb action all through the day around this picturesque part of the Cotswolds.
Ross Danby, winner of the Vic Brittain last month, is entered but not eligible for points along with the Sams' Haslam and Connor and Chris Pearson. Look out for stiff competition from Dan Thorpe and Ben Morphett, Ben Wibberley and quite a few others looking for top Championship scores.
For Midlands enthusiasts there is a fascinating sub plot with three of the top Centre's riders starting virtually together. The competition between Shaun Fox, Ben Sprigg and Buster Regan should be terrific and all three could score well on home turf. There is a similar situation in the Over 40 class with Richard Allen and John Cowley riding together, both have tremendous experience of the terrain.
The weather could also play its part as the banks of groups like Dovedale can be affected by rain or frost so it is always a rider judgement call whether to press-on or hang back within the six hour 30 minute time allowance.
The ingredients for a cracking day out are all there.
