National runners to get Carter
By TMX Archives on 14th Apr 11
Yeadon-Guiseley MC have their Chris Carter Trophy National trial this Sunday at Dob Park, Otley, in deepest Yorkshire.
As well as being a cracking National in its own right the Chris Carter represents the third round of the S3 Parts Clubman Championship, writes Barry Robinson.
The trial takes place in the scenic Washburn Valley but this year the Yeadon-Guiseley Motor Club have had to ring some changes to the usual Chris Carter Trophy national. The 117 competitors will enjoy the new group of sections to the south of Dob Park.
Andrew Carter, clerk of course, has located Caton's Quarry, and that new – but no-spectator –group opens up the big, single-lap event.
The Crabtree group will also be a prohibited area, mainly due to lack of parking, and it happens to be lambing time, so the farmers have enough on their hands. The lambing season accounts for several course changes.
After Crabtrees the action drops into Browns, so expect serious action near the start. The punch cards change and refuel follows and then Dob Park ford comes up. No vehicles down the lane please but the walk is about half a mile.
Sword Point is also out of bounds for spectators, as is Les's Rocks. So spectators should remain in Dob Park, enjoy Dorothy Wardle's catering and then head off to explore the delights of Dob, and the big sections.
The big names are in looking to bag the Chris Carter Premier and British Champion James Dabill tops the list from Michael Brown, Chris Pearson, James Fry, Dan Clark and Ben Morphett.
Dan Thorpe heads the S3 Parts Clubman title chasers from on-form Guy Kendrew and Yeovil's Ricky Wiggins who missed the Jack Wood Trial where Richard Timperley put MRS Sherco in the frame. Add in Jonathan Richardson, Richard Sadler, Becky Cook, Emma Bristow, recent Ripon winner Ross Crosby, Andy Chilton, Ian Austermuhle, Shaun Fox plus a hundred more and whoever wins will have earned the laurels.
The first man leaves the start at Dob Park (LS21 2NA for your SatNavs) at 9.31am. The observing rule will be TSR 22B (NO STOP). Trial followers are asked to follow the spectator instructions and honour the no-spectator rules.
Some observers are still required.
