Nations team chosen

THE European Motorcycle Union (UEM) will be staging the first ever Quadcross of European Nations event on September 26/27 at the superb venue in Jauer, Germany. The event will run alongside the already established Sidecarcross team event.
The ACU has always supported teams representing Great Britain in both the Motocross of Nations and Sidecar events and has announced that it will be sending a Quad team to represent GB in this prestigious event as well.
The process of picking three riders to race for their country is always a difficult one and this task has fallen on the shoulders of the ACU motocross manager, Roy Barton.
The riders who have been selected to take part are Paul Holmes, Paul Winrow and Jason MacBeth.
Roy Barton commented: "With Paul Holmes currently leading the European Championship, he was an obvious choice. Paul Winrow has got a huge amount of experience and is currently leading the British MMX Quad Championship and showed earlier in the season that he can consistently finish in the top three in a European event.
‘‘The third team berth was always going to be a difficult decision and with John Mitchell suffering from an early season injury, Jason MacBeth showed that he has the speed to be a strong part of the squad, also picking up top three finishes in the European series in Holland.
‘‘Having looked at the results that our three riders can achieve against European competition, I strongly believe that they have got a good chance of coming home with the Nations trophy.”
The riders will make their own way to the event with their respective teams and will work as a unit while on site. Quad stalwart, Tony Nash, will be on hand to co-ordinate between the riders and the official ACU representative, Dave Williams, vice-chairman of the ACU Motocross Committee.
Paul Winrow: "I am really looking forward to this event, with this being the first event of its kind for the Quad class it would be great to go down in the history books as the inaugural winners.
‘‘With the strong team that we have, I think that victory is a strong possibility. This is a great opportunity for Quad racing to take another step forward and hopefully the sport will become even more popular. It is not often that you get the chance to represent your country in our sport and I intend to make the most of the opportunity.”
Roy spoke to Paul Holmes at the British Championship round in Scotland and he was looking forward to racing for his country and will be putting his all into the event.
The UEM will be accepting entries from a maximum of ten countries with each rider competing in the three races, the best seven of the nine scores counting towards the final tally.
Qualifying for grid positions will take on the Saturday during a timed session.
