On the road to recovery

The last month has been hard going for me.

I found out after my big crash at Desertmartin that I had broken four bones in my lower back. I broke L2, 3, 4 and 5.

I then had an MRI scan too, just to make sure the vertebrae's were OK, and thankfully all was OK with them.

The doctor said six weeks for a full recovery - but I needed to be on the bike as soon as
possible, ready for round three of the Red Bull Pro Nats at Canada Heights.

Lucky for me, the race was cancelled on the Sunday morning because of the awful wet weather.

That gave me a much needed two extra weeks to recover from the injury.

The next Red Bull was at Duns in Scotland, I rode for just 30 minutes on the Thursday before  the meeting just to see how my back was.

To be honest it was still giving me some pain, so I wasn't sure how the race would go at that point.

In he end it went a lot better than I thought it would, finishing second overall and keeping the championship lead.

I was then very sore the whole of the next week and struggled to get in good shape for Hawkstone Park.

I went to Hawkstone hoping the back would feel better than it did but it was no good.

After practice and Superpole I decided not to ride and focus more on getting it better for the  upcoming Red Bull at Canada heights.

I'm currently doing all I can to do that, when race day comes (and it will have happened by the time you read this) I will just have to blank out the pain and do my best to keep the championship lead, which Is very much my main focus now for this year.

This past week has been keeping up the physical training, cycling, swimming and
rowing, with a lot of treatment on my back and a lot of rest.

I've not been on the bike as that just aggravates it.

Plenty of time to sit down and watch the Olympics!

I was supposed to go to the Olympic park this week but it's been too busy getting ready for Canada Heights. Hopefully I'll be there by the time you read this.

It's been awesome coverage on the TV, we have it on 24/ 7 in our house.

We had some great weather the other week so we took the kids out for the day to the beach, they love that and the paddling pool has been up in the garden.

Nice to have a bit of summer and get the BBQ out for once.

Well, that wraps up another month from me, I look forward to a positive month ahead.
