Colunists

MALCOLM Rathmell Sport (MRS) staged a Sherco open test day and team instructional session at rugged Thurlstone Quarry, Thurlstone, near Penistone, Yorks last Saturday, where no fewer than 20 Sherco machines were test ridden by trials enthusiasts from 9.30am until 4pm . The event should have been at Dovecliffe, Barnsley, but the local authorities blocked the venture leaving MRS just 48 hours to find and relocate to Thurlstone. Along with dealers Colin Appleyard, B and B Motorcycles, DMS, T & W, NTB. and Off Road Moto, the importers were able to
provide all variations of Sherco and all capacities were available to allow non-stop test riding.
Almost all the MRS Sherco team riders were present including Graham Jarvis, Hannah Styles, Joanne Coles, Jonathan Richardson, Josh Maude, Luke Walker, Jonny Walker, Jason Bayliss, Gary Jenkins, James Fry, Jack Thompson, Robert Waite, Richard Sadler and former Class D champion Thomas Minta.
Gary MacDonald, all the way from Kinlochleven, missed the group picture by five minutes. The test riders were segregated from the team training members on the grounds of safety because Thurlstone Quarry has some very deep craters and equally deep drop-offs into space. MRS marked the entire area with tape and
warning notices to prevent any accidents.
Graham Jarvis and Paul Sadler ran the training programme in the deeper parts of the quarry where a varied assortment of angled rocks afforded perfect training action.
Moving on, in keeping with the MRS Sherco policy, the two opening British Youth Championship rounds at Scarborough and Dob Park next month will be fully supported while plans for the November 1/2 dates at Hook Woods, Surrey, are proceeding along the lines of a full test day on Saturday and a full open to all classes trial on Sunday.
