‘Tough One' to be bigger than ever!

WITH just over a week to go before the UK's biggest Extreme Sprint Hare Scramble (on Saturday, January 26) takes place, the organising WOR Events team has announced that this year's event just got bigger and even better than originally planned. Two-time Dakar Rallye winner, Frenchman Cyril Despres, and newly converted GNCC off-road racer, Ireland's Gordon Crockard, are confirmed as taking part in this year's ‘Tough One'. Oh, and the event is to be shown on Sky Sports and Channel 5!
In addition to the much-anticipated battle between the world's two top extreme enduro racers – David Knight and Taddy Blazusiak – WOR Events is thrilled to be adding Dakar legend and all round off-road superstar, Cyril Despres.
The 33-year-old Rally and Extreme specialist is a fantastic addition to what has become one of the UK's most anticipated off-road events and one that will bring yet more media and public interest. The factory KTM mounted Frenchman is confirmed and will ride number ‘7' and hopes to add the Tough One title to his two Dakar crowns, Red Bull Romaniac titles and Erzberg victories.
With a background of youth trials, followed by an interest in enduro, Cyril stumbled upon the gruelling world of Rallye and has forged a superb career as one of the very best riders in the world. Cyril is a rider that loves tough extreme enduro events and will take on the daunting Nantmawr Quarry with the goal of battling against Knight and Blazusiak.
Another welcome addition to the Pro Entry list is the soon to be US GNCC racer, Gordon ‘Crockstar' Crockard. The former GP motocross star has decided to try his hand at the challenging event ahead of moving to the States to start a new career in cross-country racing. Together Despres and Crockard will help make this year's Tough One even more exciting.
Also adding to the excitement surrounding The Tough One is the fact that this year's event will be filmed for TV. Sky Sports and Channel 5 will be screening the event and making sure that none of the action is missed.
The TV input will ensure the profile of the event, riders, teams etc., is blown sky high.
Event preparations and work schedule is now fully underway and a track that is harder and more technical than in previous years will be unleashed on the riders and excited spectators.
The Tough One 2008 is one not to be missed and spectators are urged to get there early – if the quarry is full you wont get in!
The organisers have once again asked the public to fill their vehicles and keep the number of cars to a minimum and free off some very valuable space in the car-park.
Entry is £15 per person, with under 5-year-olds free. Every vehicle will have a further parking fee of £10 (car) or £15 (van/ mini bus) so it really is in the interest of the spectators to fill the spaces in their cars.
