ON Saturday and Sunday, February 24/25, the main beach of Margate will come alive with the excitement of international quad and motocross riders and their machines as they tackle the Margate sand. Each day the event gets under way from 10.30am.

A circuit of over one-mile will be laid out on the beach with the town of Margate, in Kent, as the backdrop and the vantage point for spectators along the raised promenade. All the usual facilities of a popular seaside town resort are on hand.

The format for each day is similar, except that on the Sunday the main finals for both the MX and QX will take place as a grand finale at the end of the day. After these the Margate Big Sky Beachcross Champions will be crowned.

Two classes of quads, each with three races per class and three races for the solo motocross machines. So that's nine races each day, plus the Big Sky Finals on the Sunday.

The competitors' paddock area will be policed, but with access for the public, giving the opportunity for spectators to get any questions answered by the riders.

Tony Nash explains: ''Margate is giving our sport a great opportunity to promote itself in a part of the UK that we have very little presence. We want this event to bring our great sport to the public and invite them to get involved by talking to the competitors and to find out why, where and how they can become involved in our sport.''

The circuit on the beach will be a no-go area for the public, but the organisers will be laying it out to ensure that it will be ‘up close' and exciting, not just for the riders, but also the spectators.
