FOLLOWING a change in the Championship calendar, Culham Moto Park, near Abingdon, will now host two days of frantic Quad racing action this weekend, Saturday and Sunday, June 20/21.
On Saturday, June 20, Nora-MX Club will stage round six of the its Proppa-sponsored ACU Southern Quad Championship. Then, following this, the club will play host to the best Quad racers in the country, plus several top European riders when it hosts round five of the ACU British MMX Quad Championship on Sunday, June 21.
Race fans will be treated to some very exciting racing and have plenty to cheer as there is a very good possibility of seeing several local racers challenging for the silverware and a large portion of the Championship points on offer.
Jason MacBeth, from Reading (aged 25) is currently third in the series standings with five podium finishes and is seeking his first win of the season. Perhaps local knowledge will help? Stefan Murphy from Oxford (aged 18) is sixth in the points table (second in the Under 21 category), despite failing to score any points in one race at round three after his machine suffered a mechanical problem. Stefan is determined to better the sixth place finishes he has recorded five times to date this year.
James Behan, from Yarnton (aged 20), currently 11th in the standings (fourth in Under 21) after scoring points in each of the eight races held so far, including several tenth place finishes.
John Pilbrow, from Newbury (aged 21) has contested each of the rounds but has unfortunately suffered three DNFs during the first six races of the season, he is anxious to finish well inside the top 20.
Further down the field there will no doubt be a battle between two of the more mature riders on track – Chris Murphy (Stefan's father) and Geoff Sharp (Reading). Both will be hoping to score their first Championship points of the season, but whether this occurs or not, they will still enjoy themselves immensely!
In addition to the top adult riders, Sunday also provides the opportunity to watch the next crop of up-and-coming four-wheel Quadcross stars when round two of the British Youth Quadcross Championship supports the adult championship. A variety of classes is available to youngsters from as young as six-year-old on 50cc quad bikes with an automatic gearbox through to 17-year-olds on 250cc race machines.
Entry fee for each day is £10 per vehicle with Saturday's action running from 11am – 5pm. Practice for Sunday's British Championship races begins at 9am, with the first of 14 races due to start at noon.
Culham Moto Park is situated at Station Road, Culham, Abingdon, Oxon, OX14 3DA. For further information please log onto www.nora-mx.com or www.mmx.org.uk
