SAM Ludgate (27) rode his last trial two weeks ago when he finished eighth in the Scott Trial. The Upton, Pontefract, operating theatre specialist electronics technician decided that at 27 he wanted to try something totally different so next year he tracks the likes of Keiran Hankin by going into road racing.

Past Class D national Youth, national Clubman trials champion and reigning Experts B champ Sam started trials riding at the age of six. He has enjoyed strong results in the Scott and SSDT as well as all the major nationals. His working commitments involved heavy travelling, UK and mainland Europe so consquentally he has missed some major events.

His current 250cc Championship winning Scorpa is up for sale as is a 1000cc Aprilia road bike.

Brother Ben will continue to ride occasionally, being a married man, when he completes a rebuild of his 250cc Beta.

Mother Penny will be at the Scottish as usual next May as well as officiating at trials and running the West Leeds Motor Club.
