THIRTEEN-year-old Sam Winterburn from Bolton Abbey is a promising motocross rider for the future, and has completed his winter warm up programme with great success. Having won the Duns Scottish Championship round just before Christmas, last Sunday he picked up his second trophy of the winter by winning the MX90 Racing Championship. On top of these two wins he has also finished second in the White Rose Winter Championship and the YMSA Inter 100s. Both went right to the wire in the final race, with Sam just being pipped by a couple of marks. Starting in March Sam will contest the British Youth Championship, the Scottish Championship and the British Masters.
One person who can spot a talented off road rider when he sees one is Colin Appleyard's General Manager, Kevin Feeny, and thanks to the Keighley based company Sam will ride this season a brand new Suzuki 85 Big Wheel.
This will be a big year for Sam and it will be interesting to see how he gets on. He has already shown this winter he can compete against much older lads and win so I'm sure it's going to be a successful season. Colin Appleyard are delighted to be giving him a helping hand. Spoke Kevin.
Sam's other sponsors include Macadam Recovery, Answer Clothing, Dunlop Tyres, Shell Oil and Danger UK Graphics.
