IN response to rumours and mis-information that has been posted on internet websites the French Scorpa factory has issued the following statement to their importers which we are happy to print in full: As you may know, it is a complicated financial time for a lot of companies. This has been brought about by the difficulties in the banking world. Our company has been obliged to take action to safeguard our operation. We have therefore asked to be put under the protection of the French law. This prevents any attempts to disrupt our production for initially six months, but with the likelihood of indefinite extension.
This arrangement is similar to the one you may have heard of in the USA called Chapter 11'. This has allowed our company to continue our daily work. In spite of a general slowing down of the global market we are satisfied by our order book, for our new models for 2009, especially on the export side of the market. We would like to reassure you that the production will remain steady for the foreseeable future. Any rumours you may have heard about our imminent liquidation are categorically untrue, due in part to the safeguards we have put in place.
As always with regards to the future
developments we may instigate, to do with
any financial institutions and industrial groups, we will keep you informed on any decisions.
Said British importer Nigel Birkett, I am obviously not happy with some of the rubbish that has appeared on websites and the above statement is direct from the factory, not from people with half a story. As far as I am concerned Scorpa is operating virtually as normal, in a brand new unit which has been built at their Ales base and 2009 trials models will begin production in a matter of days.
The factory has been concentrating on the T-Ride which has proved to be a really good model for them. Stephen Dixon rode a T-Ride to third place in the Experts class at The Tough One last Saturday! The trials bikes will follow shortly.
Two-stroke models will be limited in supply so if you want one you need to act now. Scorpa has also done a lot of development work on an electric bike which they will be marketing and there are several other exciting projects for 2010 and beyond.
I am confident that, in these unique economic times, that the factory has simply been protecting itself which is the sensible thing to do in the circumstances.
