Still living the dream

Colunists

After watching the West Coast races for so long I was itching to get out on the East and finally get things under way.

We headed out to Arlington in Texas on Wednesday and had to be up super early to ride the track for press day at 5am on Thursday.

With that over with we set up the awning and headed back to the hotel.

I'm kind of liking the American scene right now.

We fly in and out of the races and stay in some really nice hotels.

It's a little more lavish than sitting in the back of the lorry driving across Europe and sleeping in the race truck all crammed in like sardines.

Friday at the Supercross was just noise control and I freshened my bike up after press day. Again by early afternoon I was heading back to the hotel for some chill-out time and Mitch (Payton) took the team out for dinner.

Saturday on the other hand was a different story. I was up early and heading to the track for technical control.  That process was impressive as everything was done on iPads.

I didn't have to fill out any paper work like back at the gps.

The biggest shock to me was how little track time we got and how close together the practices were.

If you have a problem you have to work so fast to sort it. Luckily for me it all went smoothly throughout the entire night and the team got some good results. It was a relief as the West Coast Championship hasn't gone so well.

With the race over I pulled out my engine and headed back to the hotel and shipped it back to the shop.

With an early Sunday morning flight I was back at my house before lunchtime and pretty exhausted.

With no time to relax Monday morning I was back out at the test track making sure Justin (Hill) was putting in his laps and working on his weak points from the weekend's race.

Then Tuesday was designated engine day. The race engines turn up Tuesday morning and have to be rebuilt and ready to go by the time you leave the shop that evening. So it's a hectic day but I had my engine dyno-ed and reboxed ready to be shipped to Atlanta by 5pm.

As I wrote this I was sat on the runway waiting to fly out to the next race in Atlanta where I will be building Justin's bike in the hotel car park getting it all ready for Saturday's race.

So far I'm enjoying every minute of this new experience and still learning so much.
