Jonny Walker secured the runner-up position in the two-round British Extreme Enduro Championship with a third place finish at the second and final round of the series held at Back Cowm Quarry, near Rochdale, on Sunday.

Enduring a tough two-hour race, Jonny crashed in the second corner and suffered a further fall at the start of lap two, which forced him to later stop to fit a new front wheel. He battled his way back to third placed behind David Knight and Graham Jarvis.

Still feeling the effects of extreme dehydration from his runner-up result at Hell's Gate, Jonny's hopes of challenging for a win were derailed almost as soon as the race began.

Caught out by the frozen conditions Walker crashed in the second corner, which dropped him back to fifth.

He worked his way back up to second, before another crash – this time over the handlebars while negotiating a rock garden – resulted in a bent front brake disk and two ‘dead legs'.

Forced to pit to fit a new front wheel, Jonny lost contact with the leading duo – Knight and Jarvis – and ended the race third.

The Cumbrian's next event is the final round of the World SuperEnduro Championship, which will take place in Tours, France, on March 9.
