THE WP Elite Youth Cup continues its incredible march through the season as the first Youth National event pulled up at the scenic Skelder Bank venue, near Whitby, North Yorkshire, for round four of this highly competitive series. Despite some inclement weather, the Elite show ran smoothly and all five blocks were completed which gave the youngsters plenty of time to show off all their skills in both wet and dry conditions on this fantastic circuit. Cumbrian Ben Green scored another fine Junior 65cc overall win as he controlled the racing and extended his championship lead. Ben proved the master of the varying weather and track conditions as he won three races and took well thought out podiums in the other two heats.
Danny Lanfear is improving by the week and he provided the evidence to show how far he has come this year with a sterling second overall from two seconds and two thirds. Todd Kellett had arguably the outstanding class performance of the weekend as he out-gunned plenty of the big name riders. A fine pair of podiums among five strong results proved enough for a fighting third on the podium. Josh Coleman was in fantastic form on day one, with a race win and a second but things went awry on day two. Leading the field into Sunday's three races, Josh had to settle for a fourth after a big get off in race three halted his points charge.
Potential future superstar, Ben Watson, nailed his first 85cc national win in the Small-wheel 85cc class.
Ben took to the technically demanding track, and two wins and two podiums proved enough to nudge out James Dunn and a very classy field. Dunn added more points onto his points lead as he took the other three race wins and very nearly caught Watson for the overall win when Ben slipped up, several times, in race four.
Adam Sterry found his way to the podium for the second Elite round in a row after five consistent races carded him 174 points.
The Big-wheel rocket ship, Luke Hawkins, scored his second overall win on the bounce as he eventually out-scored the field in a highly competitive meeting for the class.
Ryan Houghton and Brad Pocock both took races wins from Hawkins as the trio, plus Anthony Mark Reville, all went into the final race with a chance of claiming the overall. Hawkins made the gate but the race for top honours was soon over as Houghton and Pocock hit problems. Houghton suffered a rear puncture which dropped him to third overall and Brad Pocock lost his silencer which, after a one-minute time penalty, pushed him down to fourth for the weekend. Reville took full advantage and sat a proud second on the podium at the end of the day.
