Twin-shock Nats ready for the off
By John Dickinson on 7th Mar 14
Inundated by offers to run a round of the recently launched 2014 Twinshock Series the Gang of Three organisers comprising Alan Wright, Gerry Minshall and Pete Salt were due to meet on Thursday this week to agree the final series details before the first round at Congleton in just two weeks time.
"Interest on the Twinshock promotional stand at the recent Telford Show was just phenomenal,” said Gerry, who ran out of the entry forms (see this week's Regs Available) long before the show closed.
"This year we want to limit the series to just six or seven rounds before thinking about 10 possible rounds next year.
"We already have four definite dates and events (including one double header weekend in the summer)and next week we will publish all of the series locations and dates.
Salty said: "The main thing to understand is that the series isn't just for the top men in the Twin-shock and Pre-65 classes but for the Clubmen on old mono Yams and original spec Bultacos on the Easy route sections.
"The Easy route is one for the older gents and the untricked uncompetitive bikes. Put plainly we want to get bums on seats.”
Quite apart from having a ballot for three observer prizes, totalling £175 per round, there's also a fabulous prize package of a £700 value of goods award for the best Honda TLR rider in the series donated by Chris Stephens of Classic Trial UK.
"I want to reward someone on a TLR who rides consistently well over the series,” said the Southampton based engineer who specialises in updating TLR Hondas and all Fantics.
Alan Wright said: "We want to give value for money, a good day out and a decent ride round using lots of sections over two laps.”
”In a sense it's a recreation of the old SEBAC trials series of 20 years ago which sadly fell by the wayside.
"Now it's a new beginning and I fully expect 100 plus entries for each round with 60 or 70 Twinshocks and historic Spanish plus 50 Britshocks and a couple or three dozen air-cooled monos so get your entries in quick.”
This series, with Alan, Peter and Gerry at the helm, is not restricted to any single organising body.
It is envisaged that every round will be two laps of around 20 sections – all off- road.
The theory is that there are hundreds of older bikes, whether historic Spanish or air-cooled monos, laying around in garages and sheds, not being used.
The idea is to get them back out there again with the minimum of fuss.
The trials will offer a decent run out with sections to suit these more or less standard bikes that wouldn't be competitive in current trials.
