Eddie Herd, chairman UEM Motocross Commission, this week released the calendar for the European Youth 65cc and 85cc Championships.

From 2012, the European series for both classes have been divided into four geographical zones in order to reduce travelling costs for competitors and their families.

The UK and Ireland are in the North West Europe zone together with Belgium, Holland, Luxemborg, Germany, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland and Iceland.

The top ten riders from each zone (in each class) will then be invited by Youthstream to compete in the finals to be held at Matterley Basin, together with the MX1/MX2 GP in August, where the European EMX65 and EMX85 champions will be decided.

There will be no ‘wild card' or ‘host Federation choice' at Matterley. It will be by strict invitation from Youthstream to the top ten riders in each zone, giving 40 riders in each of the two classes. However, should any of the top ten riders in a zone be unable to attend the final, the invitation will extend to 11th place, etc.

The EMX85 class is only open to two-stroke machines up to 85cc. The age limits for EMX85 is 11-years (minimum) and 15-years (maximum). The age limits for EMX65 is 8-years (minimum) and 12-years (maximum).

In both cases, the minimum age starts on the rider's birthday and the limit for the maximum age finishes at the end of the calendar year in which the rider reaches the age of 12 for EMX65 and 15 for EMX85.

Each organiser of a zone event will charge an entry fee of 100 Euros and riders will need to be in possession of a 2012 UEM Championship Motocross license.

MCUI licensed riders should contact the MCUI office for entry forms and ACU licensed riders should contact Sonia Goggin at the ACU office.

There is no limit on the number of riders a Federation can enter but all riders must seek and be granted start permission from their National Federation.
