Watson's in Leuch'
By TMX Archives on 1st Aug 07

IN THE deep rutted sand of the excellently prepared Commerton Farm circuit in Fife, Scotland, the penultimate round of this year's BYMX series hosted by the Glenrothes YMXC proved to be a nerve jangling affair for some but outright consolidation for others.
If there were any nerves they certainly did not show as with the last 11 race victories now
under his belt Ben Watson on the PAR Homes KTM isfast proving to be the ultimate Junior 65cc racer with anotherimmaculate performance as he cleaned-up yet again. The two mainchallengers for the crown which he now seems destined to grab, CallanCooper and Jack Heath, both had relatively disappointing weekends.Although Callan
finished third overall, a reoccurrence of themachine problems which dogged him at the previous round meant a lowpoints score first time out and a weekend battling on spare, well usedmachinery.
Jack, with his usual brand of all out effort, finished the weekend in fifth overall and the scrap with Callan in thechampionship race is now closer than ever.
Corrie Southwood with his best finish of the season in second overall now climbs up a position in the championship standings.
Matthew Fleming with an impressive performance ona course he knows only too well did exactly what he had to do with onerace win and three other top points scores in the Small-wheel 85ccsection. The result saw him increase his points lead over Rob Muscatwho struggled at times in the energy sapping conditions of the richScottish sand.
Andy Reid loomed large in all of the holeshots andfinished in fourth overall, but he had to give sway to the two-strokeflyers with three superb race victories going to Jamie McCanney, andhow close would the championship be if he had not missed a round? Theanswer I suspect is very close!
