PLENTY of four-wheel action at Weston this week of course, with the Youth race back in the programme, Paul Winrow's Youth Quad School, The H Bomb Squad doing their thing and going for the 360-Flip again, and the chance to take a look at the new Can-Am DS450 and the Polaris 450MXR and 525S racers. The KTM racers won't make it apparently, but David Knight is listed as riding a KTM 525, so who knows...
So who are the leading runners for Saturday's mainevent? Well David Knight may well be up for a Quad/ Solo double again, but Paul Winrow on his Interlock Team Honda has the best recent successrecord at Weston and he must start as favourite, even over arch rivalJohn Mitchell who has held the upper hand on Winrow all season in theQX championship.
Mitchell has taken both the British and Europeantitles on his ATV World Yamaha, but in the Weston sand Winrow will behard to beat.
Others in with a strong shout are BritishEndurance Champion Steve Atkins on the ARK ATV Honda, Jason Macbeth onthe Four Tech Honda and Andrew Davies on the K4 Suzuki. Yamaha hasstrength in numbers with David Baldwin on the Mercuria Yamaha and MattJames on the Ace ATV Yamaha, as they have both been climbing up theresults in the Endurance series this year.
Milton Keynes Suzuki Quad dealer MKM Quad Sporthas persuaded Suzuki GB ATV Product Co-coordinator Richard Gregg tohave a go and he is partnering MKM's Ant Deacon in the two man Q2 classon
the recently introduced KingQuad 450X. It's a bitof a family affair for MKM in the Q2 class actually, because Ant'sbrother Nick is also riding a KingQuad 450 with Jamie Cooper, and DadMark is riding the big KingQuad 700 with Peter Stickland, the man whostill blames me for introducing him to quad racing. Stop moaning Peter,or I'll tell your Mrs how much you really spend on quads-
I will be returning with the QUAD Magazine ProjectKingQuad 700 that I rode last year in bog standard trim with justone-mile on the clock. This year it will be over 30-pounds lighter, plus aftermarket wheels, tyres, suspension, steering damper, Yoshimuraexhaust and a bright new set of Werx graphics. I also have a side betgoing with Quadzilla sales manager, Henry Maplethorpe, who will be outon the new Quadzilla 500 4WD.
He's never ridden Weston before, so I have been laying it on thick for weeks....
See you down at the beach!
