A topsy-turvy weekend in Belfast’s SSE Arena saw Stark Future’s Jack Brunell escape with the 2024 ACU Arenacross British Championship presented by Fix Auto series lead as Conrad Mewse and Harri Kullas took round victories.

There’s always plenty of action over the Belfast weekender as the AX Tour athletes entertain a huge amount of race fans. Both nights were sold out and those lucky enough to score a seat witnessed some tremendous racing.

Crendon Tru7 Honda’s Conrad Mewse was in dominant form on Friday night and won both his heats and the Main Event to take over the series lead as Brunell perhaps felt the pressure of running the red plate. Joining Conrad on the podium were Dylan Woodcock (Mark McCann 64 YouTube Channel) and Justin Bogle (Stark Future).

With Searle sidelined by a thumb injury, this left Mewse four points clear of Brunell in the championship chase with Adam Chatfield (Mark McCann 64 YouTube Channel) and Woodcock best of the rest – albeit 15 points behind Mewse.

The championship would be turned on its head the following night though. Mewse injured an ankle during qualifying and would take no part in the evening action and he’d be joined on the sideline by Woodcock who’d crash in a qualifier and would also sit out the points payer due to injury.

Kullas was in dominant form in the Main Event and would cruise home to take his first-ever win in the series finishing ahead of Brunell and Stark Future teammate Eddie Jay Wade who rode a blinder in the final to finish third. Brunell’s second would help him regain the series lead and he heads into rounds five and six at Aberdeen’s P and J Live Arena this weekend (tickets here) with an eight-point advantage over Mewse with Kullas a further two behind.

With four races still to go – two in Aberdeen and then single rounds in Birmingham and London – there are still a lot of points on the board but the outcome of the Scottish weekender could well set the tone for the rest of the championship and it’ll be interesting to see if Brunell can maintain his lead or if he’ll lose ground to Kullas or Mewse provided he’s fit, of course!
